In 2014 while the enemy came on knocking in all shapes and forms. The most difficult by far was when my daughter’s mother attempted to keep her from me by making false accusations to the court. I was going through a Job moment being stripped of one of the things I loved the most because a judge suspended my parental rights.
I began to doubt in the Lord and started to ask questions like “do you really exist”? “Why am I going through this pain”? I became a Noah and started to drink my sorrows away. I became a Samson and started to fornicate. I was losing the battle against my flesh, I was lost.
A brother from church reached out to me and told me about a men’s prayer service. Once I finally decided to visit I was so moved to see so many brothers gathered for fellowship on a Saturday morning. There were seven of us and through their words I left feeling hopeful and encouraged.
A week later my pastor was speaking on how we have Royalty flowing through our veins. That we are children to a King! The pastor read Galatians 3:26, “for you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus”. I got on my knees and began to pray asking him to take all my pain and forgive me for my sins. That’s when God spoke to me.
He said “Stalk me” and at first I didn’t understand, then he said it again “Stalk me”, he then reminded me of the day of my baptism when he said, “you are my son and today I became your father”. It’s crazy how he speaks to us differently, through all the mess I was going through he reminded me that I am a Son To A Living King!
I asked God to give me one word so I would know it’s him speaking and he said: “Rejoice”! From that day on every time I read the Bible the word “Rejoice” kept coming up throughout scripture. I was amazed how that one word describes everything we go through in life.
It had been a desire of mine to make t-shirts with words of scripture and encouragement for a while, but things had never worked out. Durin a conversation with my brother I mentioned the idea of putting the word Rejoice on a shirt. He asked, “why Rejoice”? I simply told him that God said to always to Rejoice.
I was in and out of court for about six months but after God gave me that word remembered to I keep praising him and rejoicing because HE was in control. On June 26th, my last court date I entered the courtroom and remember looking outside the window noticing the clear blue sky when suddenly a scripture came to mind “I look up to the mountains— where does my help come from there?
“My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!” Psalms 121:1-2
The judge appointed to my case read the paperwork from both the lawyer and the social worker. She looked at me and said, “I can see how much you mean to your daughter and how she loves you dearly. I am granting you back your rights!”
In that moment and to this day I will Rejoice through it all!
